Merde-Ass Touch
It seems that to the degree we have gone along with Republican "ideas" for the last sixty years we have had: distastrous deficits, institutionalized racism, ecological catastrophe, massive loss of jobs and industry, alliance with some of the world's scummiest dictratorships, the conversion of the republic to a pseudo-theocratic, quasi-fascist military-industrial complex wherein extrajudicial detention, torture, warrantless wiretapping, and pre-emptive, undeclared, self-perpetuating forever-war are accepted practice, and, of course, wildly successful terrorist attacks. It may not be surprising that the average couch potato doesn't undertand this, but you would think that profesional Democrats would, at least.
The Republicans royally fuck up every single thing they touch, and virtually everything that's wrong with America today is due in part to the fact that they are never held accountable.
I call the picture above: The Spirit of the GOP. Drill baby, drill.

The "Republican ideas" you've listed are all policies fully embraced, implemented and championed by the Obama administration and the Democratic Congress. I think you should come up with a different term to describe them if you want to be taken seriously.
I do like to read what you have to say on this blog, but I would think that by now you would have let go of this embarrassingly naive Republican/Democrat distinction.
Picador,
Not quite sure where you're coming from here. I think I've made it pretty clear that I consider Obama a Lite Republican, and Democrats gernally odious, insofar as they refuse to stand up to Republicans. If I may quote myself, "The Republicans are despicable and fascistic and the Democrats are nauseating and cowardly...."
Now if the way "to be taken seriously" is the "he said/she said" mode of false equivalence that constitutes journamalism, well I guess I'll go on not being taken seriously, and callin 'em like I see 'em.
Today's Democrats may be hack politicians, but left to their own devices they're not usually racist, sexist, homophobic, gun-crazy, warmongering Christofascist, corporatist, and above all sanctimonous assholes -- which seems to be template for today's Republican.
Drawing a real moral distinction isn't embarrassing naivete; and refusal to make a distinction is not sophistication. People who think that 'one's as bad as the other' aren't paying attention. There's something fundamentally, morally wrong with someone who still calls himself a Republican in 2010, and there's something pitifully myopic in others who don't recognize that fact.
