Porposed TARP Item: Bounty on Republicans

The Democrats should be consolidating their advantages here but they're not. They're kind of like the horrowshow victims who assume that when the slasher/monster/alien is down he's out, only to discover, shortly after the omnimous leiftmotif plays in the background, that he's quite capable of rebounding -- with a vengeance. The Dems shouldn't be getting all bipartisan here; they should be pointing out, over and over so the average American decorticate can get it: "Never forget: these people voted in lockstep for the policies and practices which put us in these catastrophic situations, and even now they seem to have learned nothing from their mistakes. Let's roll tape of John Boehner opposing even minimal regulation...."

Obama himself could go nuclear on these people by pointing out, say, that Boehner is friendly with reactionary fanatic Grover Norquist who has famously declared, “I don’t want to abolish government. I simply want to reduce it to the size where I can drag it into the bathroom and drown it in the bathtub.” Boehner's continued bleating call for yet lower taxes, at a time of multi-trillion-dollar Treasury outlays can be seen and portrayed as another stratagem to accomplish this dark dream. The right wing project is to reduce our governement to armed forces, police and prisons -- which are the only legitimate functions of government to their infantile sensibilities. Moreso than in any recent time, I suspect their constituents (insofar as it will now undeniably involve their laid-off, foreclosed-on, uninsured self-interests, may feel somewhat differently about the things government should do) and how much of it the richest should pay for.
